Why not now?

While most of you said “It’s about time,” a few asked, “Why now?” The question was not
about qualifications or desire, but about timing. I have always been slow to see God’s timing, and even slower to act for fear of making mistakes or offending others, but at the end of the day (no, more like a year), I did not want to find myself contending with God, or having a Jonah event, or something worse. Increasing classroom distractions (cell phones) make each new year a harder struggle. My goal is to teach students how to learn, so when they are finally interested, they can learn all about it. The more I prayed, the more God indicated, “Focus on the Good News! Quit throwing pearls before swine, I mean wisdom before teenagers! Stop tending the seed in the rocky soil and water the seed in My fertile soil. I have great plans for you, my servant!”

And so, after almost forty years in the Texas Hill Country wilderness avoiding it, why not now? I offer myself as your servant and a living sacrifice to the true and living God. Make me new, Lord Jesus, make me new! And speaking of new beginnings and coming back to church, “Why not now?”

Your servant,
Charles
