From the beginning God desired to have a relationship with us. After the sin in
the garden, God began His plan to re-establish that close relationship, culminating
with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. The sacrifice of the perfect Lamb of God
to pay the price for sin for those that will come to Him.
In the upper room, Jesus established a communion with God, Jesus, the Holy
Spirit and us. We reaffirm this communion every time we gather to celebrate and
commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the breaking
of bread and partaking of the fruit of the vine.
Jesus spoke in His prayer in the garden of this unity, saying in John 17, “that
we be one as He and the Father and the Spirit are one.” What an amazing feeling
knowing that we are one with Jesus, the Father, and the Spirit and with all other
saints when we commune. “Lord, as we partake, light the fire in my soul again!”
