The Best Laid Plans

Most of you probably did not know it, but Cale Carson and I made plans to attend the Texas Normal Singing School in Abilene this past summer.  It is an annual week-long conference designed to improve any song leaders’ skills.  Several church members and leaders have lamented our sometimes S-L-O-W Sunday morning song selection.  This conference was one of our efforts to pick up the pace. Unbeknownst to Cale at the time, my close personal friend, James Tackett, is one of the directors.

As a minister’s schedule often does, my plans were changed for me at the last minute, and I ended up unable to go.  Cale was blessed with the opportunity to go on this adventure ALONE. And what an adventure he had! He plans to share some of that fun and excitement with us Sunday morning during his lesson.  I would encourage everyone to come hear him tell… wait for it… ‘the rest of the story.’

I texted Cale during the week and asked him to say hello to my friend James.  Cale texted back the next evening, “You did not mention he was the director!” I must confess my sin. It was the perfect setup, but Cale handled it with class and grace, and got to make some new friends, too. He even showed up with a pitch pipe to lead singing the following Sunday.  As several members have mentioned , “Worship is wonderful when we are prepared!” And my reply, “It most certainly is! What can you do to help us prepare for worship?” I think some song lyrics from Acapella said it best: “Preacher said that anybody could do, all the things that somebody should do, that nobody did.”

We would love to have you come prepared to worship with us on Sunday. Get your singing voice ready and your ears prepared  to listen to what the Lord has put on Cale’s heart to share with us.

Grace & Peace, Charles.
