Thank God for Zealots

As our elders and deacons prepare our annual budget, reviewing where monies
were allocated and spent, prayerfully considering where funds are needed this
year, I am reminded of Paul’s financial planning suggestions in 2nd Corinthians,
Chapter 8. Paul offers his advice for preparing to help and to serve others in
need. His idea was to give within one’s means to support the entire body of
Christ. When Jerusalem was in need, Macedonia helped. Later, when Macedonia
became needful, others would help. Over time, a fair balance would give everyone
the opportunity to help support others in their time of need.

I think of Harvey last year, and how eager and zealous our LA neighbors were to
help, wanting to return a favor or repay a debt some of them felt from Katrina. For
others, it was just the right thing to do. Paul thanked God for zeal in serving others,
and thereby proclaim the good news and show goodwill. Let us go forth and do
likewise.

Grace & Peace,
Charles.
