Tomya and I get to go on a long desired vacation trip to Washington, DC. Not only did we desire to take our children there over the years, but our time overseas made us want to get back in touch with our roots … our Nation … Our History. Perhaps we’ll take kids and grandkids another day.
So tickets are purchased. 5 days in DC and then 5 days in Boston to see Tomya’s youngest sister and her family. In theory it seemed easy. Then we started thinking about what we would like to see …especially in DC. Our hotel is just 5 blocks from the Whitehouse. That’s cool. We booked a sightseeing tour for Day one that should give us a top view of many of the sights of interest. I do not like “winging” such trips, but there are a lot of factors that may change our minds anyway.
I love History and this should scratch that itch … a lot! I love things of the Bible too … and our original version of History would suggest that I would be blessed in Washington for that reason as well. You see, our forefathers saw a direct link between our blessings, safety, stability as a Nation and the Will of God. Our original thought behind “separation of church and State” was for the Government never to have the Power to control Religion or Faith. Religion’s influence on Government and its agencies was a given. Want proof? Read their writings. You might want to read it soon .. before someone with a computer finds a way to re-write them!
Our nation’s history is rich in Faith and Patriotism. The future seems to have a negative or fearful bend to it … but it is yet to be written. As a matter of fact, a hundred years from now, people will be visiting Monuments, Art galleries and Museums to see the things that shaped their world. You get to not only witness history … but you get to help write it!
Same goes for our congregation. It has its own history. Many wonderful people, plans and sacrifices have helped shape her. There are a few things we might desire to forget, but there is no escaping History’s influence on who we are. Let’s make sure the next generation will look for the evidence of God doing BIG things and how it started something amazing for them to continue!
See ya in a week!
