“The Boxes”
By the time you read this article, you will have noticed the boxes … boxes and … more boxes piled outside and inside the church building. In fact, many of you will likely recognize some of the boxes … because you donated them over the past 4 months. For some of us who were collection points for boxes … we are certainly glad to have them out of our houses and garages!
“Why all the boxes?” you ask. Well, our Youth Rally general theme is: “Consumed”. This works well with our congregational theme of “BIG”. It’s the idea that there is no room for mediocrity in a God-inspired church. God is BIG … and thus what He does is BIG. Now, for those of you who like the “personal” size God … He can do both. It’s up to us to see how the intimacy and personal empowerment and blessings He gives us every day ties into what He’s also doing in others’ lives as well. We call this “church”.
The problem often is … we have a history of putting God in a Box. Israel did. For instance, when Moses was up on the Mountain getting the hand carved instructions from God, the children of Israel, and Aaron, the High Priest decided they needed something tangible. They carved a Golden Calf. Does that really give a glimpse of the God who delivered them from Egypt? You know the rest of the story … It didn’t turn out well for them!
Well, you will find the more manageable God is … how He can be hidden in our pockets, our houses and in many aspects of our lives … the smaller the box is that you carry Him around in.
So “how Big” is your box? Ask yourself … “How prominent is my God … the Lord of Heaven and Earth … in my home? My Work place? My School? My Relationships? My Recreation? My Hobbies? My Vocabulary?
If He has a small role or presence in those place … guess what? You have a small box!
Let’s take God out of our Boxes and truly let Him be Sovereign .. Life-changing … Inspirational for those around us … Let HIM be BIG!
Trying to get smaller … so my God can be BIGGER! Craig
