How do you raise the Son of Man? What does that love, discipline, and wisdom look like? We see a glimpse of the relationship between Mary and Jesus at the wedding feast in Cana. Mary makes a factual statement, “They have no wine,” to which Jesus basically replies, “So what?” When I was a teenager, I might have replied, “And your point is?”
Instead of arguing with her son, admonishing him, or disciplining him, she turns her attention to the servants with a directive, “Do whatever he tells you.” She clearly expects Jesus to fix the situation, but also realizes it will be on his terms. Likewise, Jesus could have just said no, but instead he complies without revealing his identity, kind of like a super hero in disguise. Incredible. Oh wait, that’s our GPS theme for the summer.
