Most of us were privileged to be born US citizens. It is a right we often take for granted. We are both blessed and thankful for our freedom to gather and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our country appears politically divided over the process of immigration. Whether legal or illegal, there are many people in the world today who desire to be in America.
In scripture, God has an immigration plan for His peaceful kingdom in heaven. While many Israelites believe their citizenship is a birthright, and Jesus acknowledges their opportunity to take the citizenship exam first, Jesus also proclaims there is an immigration and naturalization program. Gentiles will also be given the opportunity to apply for citizenship. Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, will choose who is permitted citizenship, and he has some behavioral expectations. “None will hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain,” is just one expectation of law-abiding citizens of his kingdom. Somehow, I don’t think there will be any law-breaking permitted.
Perhaps this entire human life is our citizenship exam. Those who bear spiritual fruit worthy of His kingdom will be granted citizenship if they apply. Those who don’t may be left standing at the pearly gate, thrown into the outer darkness, or simply ignored, separated from their Creator. For now, let’s just work together on bearing spiritual fruit; compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, and love, which binds all together in perfect harmony.
Grace & Peace,
Charles.
