The old saying goes, “Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he can eat for a lifetime.” I think some of our father’s would rather be worshipping God out on the lake while fishing on this Father’s Day than worshipping God here at the building. It could be argued Jesus was the GOAT, Greatest of All Time, when it comes to fishing. He could catch boat loads of fish when the professionals were unsuccessful.
It is important to note Jesus both starts and finishes his earthly ministry with a miraculous catch of fish. Jesus tells Simon-Peter, Andrew, James, and John to push out to deeper water to catch fish when he called them to follow him, and Jesus also had them put the nets on the right side of the boat to catch fish, some of which they had for breakfast on the shores of the sea of Tiberias, before he ascended to heaven.
It’s a fact! Being a fisherman is scriptural, both catching fish and catching people. So, go out there (after service) and find some fish to fry and some souls to save, and may our fellowship in the Lord bring its own reward.
Grace & Peace,
Charles.
