Jesus loves me

Craig’s Corner
“Jesus loves me”

Is there any doubt that this classic song is the all-time favorite of little children the world around? Tomya and I have worshipped with churches pretty much around the globe and given the chance to pick the song they want sung at their church … kids choose … “Jesus loves me”!
Perhaps it’s because that’s what we gave them to sing. Perhaps it just has a universally lovable beat to it. Perhaps … they’re paying attention to what the song actually says!
Let’s see if there’s anything attractive about the words …

“Jesus love me … this I know … for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong … They are weak but He is strong. Yes … Jesus loves me… Yes Jesus loves me … Yes Jesus loves me … the Bible tells me so!”

It was written as a poem by Anna B. Warner in 1860 to encourage a dying child. It was turned into a tune in 1861 by William Bradbury. There are other verses. 4 to be exact, but who really remembers all of them? Some have even taken the liberty of writing their own verses to it.

As simple as it is … perhaps it is so universal … so memorable … because it says exactly what we want or need to hear? I believe one of Satan’s best weapons is to convince us that we don’t qualify for God’s positive attention … let alone His Love! Just like the troublesome three year old in a busy home-setting … just trying to get attention any way he can … we draw God to us because we need Him to notice us!

But that’s not how God rolls. He noticed us from the beginning. He made us in His likeness and we have never fallen from His lofty preference of #1 of all of Creation! If only the same could be said of us … and our love for Him!

Our Friends Day theme is: “A place for you”. The idea being is that God has a place for us … and our obligation is to have a “Place for others”. The next step will be to ask of ourselves … “Do we have a place for Him?”

If you hear nothing the Preacher has to say this morning … please remember that “Jesus loves you … this we know ….”

Loved by God … He does have a Place for me!
