While we eagerly await the installation of additional leadership, scheduled for our morning service on November 17, we will take a month to focus on the command Jesus gave to Peter just before his ascension. Jesus challenged Peter, asking, “Peter, do you love me?” and Peter replying, asserted, “You know that I do, Lord.” Then Jesus tells Peter to “feed my sheep.” While is it highly likely Jesus was referring to a spiritual nourishment that only the apostles could provide as Jesus closest chosen earthly companions, students, and friends, there is a physical element to supplying the needs of Jesus’ sheep.
So, this month, OUR GOAL IS TO FEED 500. If Jesus could feed 5,000 at one meal, then we should be able to accomplish at least a tithe of that in one month. So, TODAY we will raise funds to feed Jesus’ flock in Haiti, by feeding our own a traditional Haitian meal, and donate our lunch money to Hope for Haiti’s Children. Next week, we will feed our local veterans at our regular second Sunday potluck. On the 23rd, we will feed all those who have taken advantage of our Caring & Sharing Center during the calendar year, and distribute Thanksgiving care baskets so they can have a nice Thanksgiving meal at home, too. Finally, on the 26th, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we will have light refreshments and finger foods for our traditional Thanksgiving service. A very busy month is planned, so prepare now to help our congregation succeed at our goal of feeding the 500. By the way, don’t forget to pray about it, and ask God for our success in serving Him.
Grace & Peace, Charles.
